SIOUX CITY | Matthew James Chwirka, 52, of Lowell, Ark., formerly of Sioux City, passed away after injuries sustained in a work accident on Thursday, July 18, 2013, in Springfield, Mo.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Matt was born Dec. 2, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Zigmund and MaryAnne (Nero) Chwirka. He attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from North High School in 1979. He then attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City.

Matt worked for Interbake Foods in North Sioux City for 18 years.

He enjoyed the water and loved spending time boating, fishing, and waterskiing. He also enjoyed golfing and motorcycling. Matt loved to work on his houses and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Timothy Chwirka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jennifer Chwirka of Des Moines, Iowa; his significant other, Imelda Bishop of Lowell, Ark.; his siblings, Zachary and wife, Christine Chwirka, Mary Chwirka and Marlene Chwirka, all of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
