SIOUX CITY | Alan D. Simon, 53, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, after a sudden illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services today at the church. Arrangements are with Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent at www.meyerbroshchapels.com.
Alan was born Dec. 17, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Daniel and Charlotte (Walker) Simon. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from North High School. Alan attended Morningside College and the University of South Dakota.
He was a journeyman tinner for Sheet Metal Union Local 3, and worked throughout the United States.
Alan enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to grill out and cook for his family and friends. He was an avid sportsman, and followed the Washington Redskins and Iowa State Cyclones. Alan enjoyed working with his hands and helping others.
Survivors include his sisters and brother, Denise Simon, Cynthia Simon, Christopher Simon and Amy Simon (fiancé Paul Craft), all of Sioux City; and aunts and uncles, Eunice Mohn, Joan (James) Sweeney, Joseph (Marsha) Simon, all of Sioux City, and Jennie Phelps of Queens Creek, Ariz.

Al was a good kid from school North Jr to NHS he turned into a great guy. He was fun to hang out with. I started calling him Booner after his older bro Dan and that was his bother Dan's nickname a great guy too. Al thought it was funny and that was his nature. Just a peach of a guy.
