Ed Fortner (NHS Staff)

Edward G. Fortner, 47, Bullhead City, AZ, former Sioux City educator, died Saturday, August 23, 1986, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Searchlight, NV.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The Rev. Dave Daumer, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday in Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Fortner was born July 4, 1939, in Sioux City and was a lifelong resident until moving to Bullhead City in 1981. He graduated from Central High School and received a bachelors degree from Morningside College and a masters degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He married Kay I. Beck October 22, 1958 in Vermillion.

A teacher for 20 years in Sioux City, he taught science at Leeds High School and biology and advanced biology at North High School. He had been an insurance agent for AAL the last three years in Bullhead City.

Mr. Fortner was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bullhead City, where he was serving as an elder.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lori Thatcher and Amy Fortner, both of Sioux City; his parents, Herbert and Marian Fortner of Sioux City; a sister, Anne Rose of Madison, WI; and a granddaughter.

Mike Burns {O'Byrne}

Ed was like a second father to me. I worked on his farm from 1975 until 1982. He and his wife moved to AZ while I was stationed with the Navy in CA. I would travel to see him quite often. I always enjoyed our talks.
I truely miss him even to this day. I hope to see him once again after my time is up.
